Oops

Well, so much for my starting to blog again.

I was a bit rubbish at that, wasn't I!

Well, it's time for me to start up again I think.

A lot has happened since I started up this blog. I passed my original module (AA100), had a baby, because of the said baby, dropped out of my second module (A200), then sat and passed my third (A310, Film and TV History)). That happened back in October 2011.

It had been my plan to take a bit of time out after this last module, as it's quite hard work studying with a little one (the starting to study at 8pm gets a bit wearing after a while!), however the new fee rules for the Open University meant that I needed to pick up another course starting before April 2012.

Here I hit a snag. Originally I'd been signed on to study for a BA in History, however, one of the conditions of the continuing fee agreement was that I had to be studying a module that led directly to my chosen degree path. All the history modules start in Feb, and by the time I had decided/realised I needed to pick up another module, I'd missed the registration dates.

So I had to make a decision, do I bale out completely, just ignore the money I've put in so far and go back and start again at the expensive rate when I can afford it, or do I bite the bullet, change my degree to an Open qualification and pick up a different course.

So I decided. In February of this year (2012), I start A174, a short course on writing fiction.

Now I'm no longer constrained to history modules, I've discovered a raft of other areas I'm interested in reading, and with the benefits of the open degree I can do this.

It was a bit of a decision to chew over, but in the end I decided that as I'm only doing the degree because I don't have one, that it really didn't matter what "flavour" of degree I had, so long as I had one.

So I'll probably go quiet for now, but the course website opens up on the 25th, and apparently the resource pack was posted out on the 10th, so I'm sure I'll be back once they have appeared, using this space as a bit of a sandpit to test out ideas, and maybe even publish some!
